Halloween week is busy. Costumes, candy, getting everybody out the door before dark. A big pot of chili is the easiest way we know to feed a crowd before trick-or-treating, and it's even better when you come home cold and want a second bowl.
Why Taco Hot Sauce?
Our shortcut is Rocky's Taco Hot Sauce. It's made with chili peppers, cumin, garlic, onion and traditional taco spices, so a few tablespoons do a lot of the seasoning work for you. It's a medium heat: enough to notice, not enough to take over. Stir it in while the chili simmers so the flavor builds, then put the bottle on the table for anyone who wants more.
This recipe keeps things simple. Brown some ground beef or turkey with an onion, add two cans of beans and a big can of crushed tomatoes, season with chili powder and Taco Hot Sauce, and let it bubble for half an hour. That's it. No long ingredient list and no slow cooker required, although it reheats beautifully if you want to make it the night before.
Set out shredded cheese, sour cream and tortilla chips and let everyone build their own bowl. Leftovers make great chili nachos or a topping for baked potatoes later in the week.
